Canada's National Pipeline/Convoy Conference, organized by the
Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and sponsored in part by the
Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), is taking place from May 1st –
4th at the Fairmont Royal York hotel in Toronto. The conference provides
an excellent platform for the transportation and law enforcement
industries to come together to discuss pertinent security issues facing
the industry.
Law enforcement and the trucking industry will discuss issues
surrounding cargo crime, as well as steps carriers can take to minimize
exposure to theft and security risks. On May 3rd, a panel featuring
representatives from Bison Transport, JD Irving, Marsh Canada and the
Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) will discuss initiatives that have been
undertaken in the industry, best practices and associated challenges to
combating cargo crime. Carriers will identify various threats and
frustrations encountered while combating cargo crime, successful tactics
being used by the industry as well as recommendations for industry as a
whole. On May 4th, CTA will share the preliminary findings of its
groundbreaking report on cargo crime, the result of months of
collaboration amongst the trucking industry, law enforcement officials
and the insurance community, at a press conference with David Bradley,
President and CEO Canadian Trucking Alliance, Rob Ruiters (RCMP) and
Garry Robertson (Insurance Bureau of Canada).
